Volunteer Lawyer Support

Wellness Buddies Programme

  •

The Wellness Buddies Programme is a volunteer peer support system aimed at supporting the wellbeing of our volunteer lawyer community.  The pilot of this initiative, launched on 7 August 2025, matches our volunteers with a ‘buddy’ of their choice. Check out the list of ‘buddies’ below and fill out this form to be matched.

*Please note: The Wellness Buddies Programme is intended solely to provide peer support, general guidance, and share helpful resources. It is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, or legal advice.

  • Nicholas has over three decades in the art of lawyering. He is also a psychologically trained mediator in all manners of disputes, and is warm, friendly, and approachable. As someone who is an empathetic listener, one can benefit from his wealth of experience. He is good at looking out for others, and follows through with his actions.

He is a firm believer of a healthy work life balance and does not allow himself to be overwhelmed by the incessant demands of practice. He often seeks respite from the daily grind by spending time in the garden with his plants and whipping up meals for his family.

As someone who walks the talk, his out of office email reply reads:

“Emails received after business hours are not attended to.

Thank you, keep safe, and be kind to your mind.

Appreciating the challenges one may go through in the course of practice, Nicholas is an advocate for the Wellness Buddies Programme as he fervently believes that no one should ever go through these things alone.

For himself, thankfully with the support from friends, and his own mental fortitude, he has managed to overcome the invective hurdles and to date remains seated with voluble insouciance. He continues to chart his own path in the legal space, and to pursue all things that matter and bring him joy.

  • Linda is a non-lawyer mediator of 20 years and works alongside lawyers when she mediates shareholder, family, healthcare disputes etc. She often sees the psychological toll it takes on lawyers representing high conflict emotional clients. She is also a qualified conflict coach and has coached and mediated disputes between lawyers.

She is an empathetic listener and has the ability to ask thought provoking questions. She is also a good resource person for issues related to conflict and behavioural sciences. She has become comfortable with her strengths and weaknesses and is always striving to live each day better than the last.

She enjoys traveling and thrives on having authentic conversations with different people, whilst basking in natural landscapes. She particularly loves the diverse temperaments of the ocean and would love to spend every day on the sea if possible.

She is married with 4 children – 3 of whom are late teens and young adults. Linda appreciates the struggles of meeting high expectations both from within and without, and the challenges of dealing with many curve balls in life.

  • Ling Ling has been in the legal profession for 17 years (as of 2025). With a broad background in general litigation, she enjoys working across various areas including civil, commercial, family, and criminal defence matters. She also spent around four years specialising in Mental Capacity Act litigation, deepening her understanding of the legal and human aspects of mental health.

Outside the courtroom, Ling Ling finds balance through martial arts. She currently trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Japanese Ju Jitsu, and has previously practised Taekwondo and Wing Chun.

She joined the Wellness Buddies Programme at a friend’s invitation, motivated by a desire to support fellow practitioners. She’s a caring and attentive listener who also enjoys writing. Whether you need someone to talk to or just want to share your thoughts over a message, Ling Ling is here to listen and support you.

  • Meet Dixon. Dixon is an IP Strategist who does all things IP — not Internet Protocol or Important Person (though he insists he is both on weekends). He is an Interested Party, which basically means he cares… a lot. Especially about his peers and their mental health. He joined the programme because he understands how the need of a listening ear feels like.

While others run from awkward conversations like they are allergic to feelings, Dixon runs toward them — like a golden retriever with a psychology degree. Anxiety? He reads you a funny brochure from his secret stash. Depression? He provides snacks, a listening ear, and a Spotify playlist titled “Mood: I Got You.” He is not a therapist (he once tried and ended up in a 45-minute discussion about someone’s houseplants), but he is the kind of guy who makes sure no one feels alone — even if it means sending memes at 2 a.m.

Dixon knows mental health isn’t all sunshine and gratitude journals. It is messy, hard, and sometimes comes with emotional baggage heavier than carry-on allowance. But he is there to say, “It’s okay to not be okay,” and also, “I brought Tutu Kueh.”

Because supporting your peers doesn’t mean having all the answers. Sometimes it just means showing up, being kind, and laughing at your own jokes until someone else does too.

  • Peggy is the Founding Director of PY Legal LLC and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 1988 after graduating with an LLB (Hons) from the National University of Singapore. This year marks her 38th year of legal practice. She specialises in family law, conveyancing, and probate and trust matters. Her practice is client centred and she is particularly defined by empathy and a strong commitment to justice. This is especially so for the marginalised and vulnerable sectors of our society.

Peggy has been a key advocate for access to justice, playing a pivotal role in the Access to Justice for Persons with Disabilities Symposium and calling for a national task force on invisible disabilities. Her work reflects a deep dedication to equity, dignity, and mental wellness.

Over the years, she has supported many individuals facing mental health challenges, both legally and personally. Her decision to join the Wellness Buddies Programme stems from a lifelong mission to uplift those whose struggles are unseen and misunderstood.

Through this role, Peggy hopes to provide direct, compassionate support beyond the courtroom – walking alongside individuals on their mental health journeys. She believes in creating a society where mental health is prioritised, and no one faces their struggles alone.

Outside of work, Peggy is working towards obtaining a black belt in Taekwondo.
